What function does an OVP switch have? Where is it used?
Switch ICsFunctionHow to use
An OVP switch is a type of switch IC which has an overvoltage protection function. 'OVP' stands for 'Over Voltage Protection'.
The OVP switch is usually used to protect the circuit from being damaged by keeping off the path between the external input source and the circuit when a voltage higher than a specific value is applied to the input pin.
Some OVP switch ICs have a fixed overvoltage threshold, and others can change the threshold by connecting external resistors to their OVLO (Over Voltage Lockout) pin.
To avoid break-down by over-voltage, OVP switches are mainly used in applications which have both battery-power and adapter input. Such applications might be directly connected to an adapter that may force inappropriate overvoltage.
