Programmable PMIC Supporting ASIL-D for ADAS Camera Solutions

The all-new RN5T5611 is a three-channel programmable PMIC and is fully compliant with the highest automotive safety integrity level (ASIL-D) and AEC-Q100. It includes two high-efficiency step-down DC/DC converters (operating in anti-phase), a low-noise regulator, an interrupt controller, and I2C control interface. Flexible power-on and off sequences can be customized to meet system requirements. Various safety features are integrated, for example, a window voltage detector for all internal channels plus one external source, soft-start, auto-discharge, status monitoring by built-in registers, fault output, hardware reset input pin, thermal shutdown, overcurrent / reverse current protection and so on.

Internal registers:

One of the strong features of this PMIC is its built-in self-test (BIST) mechanism to check the internal functions of the IC and the possibility to store which internal block is failing. Several circuits are monitored by BIST, such as:

  • Abnormal clock frequency and clock interruption
  • Regulators start sequence timeout
  • Regulators soft-start time error
  • DC/DC overcurrent protection
  • Regulators over & undervoltage detection
  • External over & undervoltage detection
  • Regulators slot violation
  • Abnormal RESETO pin release
  • Input voltage failure

As a result, an output flag on the interrupt pin INTB will occur when any of the self-test functions fail and at other conditions like detection of an abnormal operating temperature, I2C interface error, and BIST has done. The PMIC has a flexible configuration for the start-up and shut-down sequence and can be specified according to the system requirements. Summarizing, the RN5T5611 is a reliable power supply for mission-critical applications in an automotive environment and enhances the safety level to a higher degree. The package of the IC has so-called wettable flanks improving the solderability and better visual inspection when the chip is assembled on the circuit board.
