What is externally adjustable phase compensation?
DC/DC Switching RegulatorsHow to use
There are two types of phase compensation circuits for DC/DC converters: internalized phase compensation and external phase compensation constructed with external components.
Products with internal phase compensation give priority to the stability under all conditions estimated by their specifications, and the responsiveness may not be optimal in some operating conditions. Besides, some of them have restrictions on external components (inductors, capacitors, etc.).
Products with externally settable phase compensation, on the other hand, can achieve the optimized stability and responsiveness by constructing a phase compensation circuit with enxternal capacitors and resistors in accordance with operating conditions (input voltage, output voltage, output current, inductor, capacitor, oscillator frequency, etc.).
We provide boost DC/DC converters and buck DC/DC converters with externally adjustable phase compensation. For instance, the R1211 can perform optimal phase compensation by adding an external capacitor to the AMPOUT pin or the COMP pin. The R1270 has an EC pin and an ER pin for an external capacitor and resistor respectively.
Note: select the capacitor and the resistor for external compensation based on the recommended value and formula described in the specification sheet, and confirm the operation under the actual conditions adequately.
