New JRC has launched a photo reflector sensor NJL5820R that is suitable for detecting direction and position of rotation and movement

New JRC has launched a photo reflector sensor NJL5820R with 2-phase digital signal output. This sensor is suitable for detecting the direction and the position of rotating and moving objects. The NJL5820R has already entered mass production.

General Description

In recent years, small motors and linear actuators have been high precision, and detecting the rotation of the control dial has been more required. Therefore the sensor demand for detecting the rotation and the movement has increased. New JRC has developed a photo reflector sensor NJL5820R with 2-phase digital signal output that can detect the direction and the position of the rotating and moving objects. The NJL5820R combines a newly designed light receiving IC and a high output infrared LED, so that it achieves low operating current. In order to contribute to simplification of embedding into equipment and miniaturization of equipment, New JRC has newly developed a unique method for processing the reflector light from the reflector plate, thereby it is possible to install a sensor with excellent robustness*1.

Because the NJL5820R is an optical sensor, it isn't affected by the magnetic field of the motor, and can detect the direction and the position of rotation and movement.

  • *1

refers to the property of being less affected in sensor installation accuracy or external environment change

Features

It is possible to detect the direction and the position of the rotation (movement) by 2-phase digital signal output

NJL5820R combines with the recommended reflector plate (stripe mirror), can obtain 2-phase digital signal with 90 degree phase shift that can easily detect the direction and the position of rotation (movement).
The 1/4 resolution of the reflector plate pattern period can be obtained by detecting the rise and fall of the 2-phase signal. It is possible to measure more accurately than the physical accuracy of the stripe mirror.

Low operating current design including the driving current of the light emitting device (LED)

The NJL5820R combines the light receiving IC with high sensitivity, low operating current and high output infrared LED, achieves low operating current even in battery equipment. It is possible to operate with about 1/5 driving current of the market products.

Excellent robust and better characteristic against the distance variation between the sensor and the stripe mirror

It is difficult to keep the distance between the sensor and the stripe mirror constant in the position detection of the rotation and the straight movement. Even though the distance between the sensor and the stripe mirror changes, the NJL5820R can detect the reflector light from reflector plate by light receiving device, then take the generated light current as a reference voltage of the next stage comparator. Therefore it has not only achieved the characteristic against the distance variation between the sensor and the stripe mirror, but also the Duty and the phase difference don't fluctuate almost.

It isn't affected by the magnetic field

Because the NJL5820R is an optical sensor, it isn't affected by the magnetic field of the motor. You can't consider the set position when set sensor, and there is no need for the magnetic field analysis in design.
