New JRC has recently developed a new speaker amplifier IC NJU72065 that has volume control function. Using NJU72065 in your audio application can optimize system design and simplify speaker driver circuit, reduce cost.
General Description
Recently more and more equipment has been equipped with audio output function. In addition to speaker amplifier, more needs are simple volume control function. The speaker amplifier IC NJU72065 with volume control function can not only receive the analog audio signal, but also flexibly process the PWM signal from MCU. Therefore the system will be simpler, and the circuit design will be easier.
Moreover, since the NJU72065 employs small package and it is possible to composite simple audio output circuit with only a few external passive devices, it is beneficial to reducing the mounting area.

Beneficial to optimization of system
In addition to the speaker amplifier with 1.2W output power, the NJU72065 has been equipped with volume control function that is required for the equipment with audio output.
All along, it was necessary to combine some parts to composite the speaker driver circuit with volume control function (See Figure1). Moreover, since operational amplifier is built in input terminal, the NJU72065 can not only be input analog signal, but also flexibly correspond to PWM signal from MCU.
When using the speech synthesis LSI, if you use the NJU72065, the cost of audio output module can be reduced. In this case, it is necessary to output sound signal from MCU.
Beneficial to simplification of circuit design
Previously the sound output circuit consisted of filter that receives PWM signal from MCU, volume control circuit, speaker amplifier, etc. a number of components. So the circuit design would be complex.
Since the NJU72065 built all these functions in IC, the circuit design has been easy. The volume control and stand-by mode change can be operated by I2C bus.
Beneficial to reduction of mounting area
Since NJU72065 employs small package MSOP10 of 4.0mm * 2.9mm, the mounting area of PCB can be reduced a lot.
