New Release of the NP4271 Series, an LDO Voltage Regulator with Watchdog Timer and Reset Function by Window-Type Output Voltage Monitoring
Ideal for Functional Safety Applications Critical in Automobiles,
Nisshinbo Micro Devices Inc. released the NP4271 series, an LDO voltage regulator with built-in watchdog timers and reset functions by window-type output voltage monitoring for automotive applications.
In recent years, the demand for functional safety design in automobiles has led to an increase in electronic control applications that require additional voltage monitoring functions and redundant designs for stable system operation and early failure detection.
Accordingly, there are increasing demands for high precision in watchdog timers (WDTs) that externally monitor microcontrollers (MCUs) and reset functions by output voltage monitoring.
The NP4271 series has WDTs with excellent timing accuracy, reset functions by highly accurate window-type output voltage monitoring, and a 500-mA output current LDO with fast transient response on a single chip. Therefore, this product contributes to system miniaturization and enables the construction of systems with stable operation and enhanced security, which are necessary for functional safety.
The LDO can operate with an input voltage of 4.0 V to 40 V and has two output voltage variations of 3.3 V or 5.0 V. This product features high output voltage accuracy of ±2.0% over a wide range of conditions, VIN = 6 V to 40 V, Io = 5 mA to 500 mA, Ta = -40°C to +125°C.
This product has two versions of reset function by output voltage monitoring: version A monitors both the low and high sides, and version B monitors only the low side. Regarding the accuracy of the detection voltage, the low side is VDETL ± 2.0% (Ta = -40°C to 125°C) and the high side is VDETH ± 5.0% (Ta = -40°C to 125°C).
With high timing accuracy of ±20% (Ta = -40°C to 125°C) for WDT monitoring time and ±20% (Ta = -40°C to 125°C) for WDT reset time, the product contributes to improved system safety and greater freedom in component selection.
Expected applications include automotive ECUs for headlights and air conditioning panels, etc. The quality grade of the NP4271 series is P grade for chassis and body control, and cockpit systems.

Features
1. Achieves High System Stability and Compact Size Thanks to Built-In Window-Type Output Voltage Monitoring and WDT Functions
A growing number of automotive applications are adding voltage monitoring and redundant design for stable system operation and early detection of failures. By integrating multiple functions, the NP4271 series contributes to system miniaturization as well as stable system operation and enhanced safety.
2. Contribute to Stable System Operation with Excellent Input Transient Response
When multiple loads are connected to the power supply line, VIN, the output voltage may be affected due to voltage fluctuations of the power supply line depending on the operating conditions of the loads. Since the NP4271 series has good input transient characteristics and suppresses output voltage fluctuations, this product contributes to stable system operation.
