Does the exposed pad have to be connected to the ground pattern for the RF devices?

  • * This FAQ mainly explains GaAs products using GaAs substrates and RF CMOS products using SOI technology.

RF Deviceboard

Yes, it is required. The exposed pad is connected to the IC's ground. For good RF performance, it is recommended that it be grounded with minimum parasitic inductance.
Also, for the heat dissipation of the IC, the exposed pad must be connected to the ground layer, and please take the heat dissipation measures from the ground layer.
