These days, many systems using an MCU, FPGA, ASIC, etc. have a complicated circuit structure which contains multiple power management rails. To start up and stop these systems safely, the order and the timing of switching the multiple power lines ON/OFF must be determined in advance. This operation control of multiple power rails is called sequence control.

While sequence control is usually conducted by using a programmable logic controller, some of power management ICs have a function to perform it. We have a lineup of power management ICs capable of controlling the start-up and shutdown sequences by multiple functions like a soft start, a delay, an auto discharge, and so on. For example, the R1290 series has one suitable for LCD panels, and the R1283 for CCD sensors.
