Is an isolator for power amplifier protection necessary at the power amplifier’s output?

  • * This FAQ mainly explains GaAs products using GaAs substrates and RF CMOS products using SOI technology.

RF Device

For instance, if the output port of the power amplifier is open, the power amplifier may be damaged by reflection of the signal output from the power amplifiers themselves.
Some customers connect an isolator to the output of the power amplifier to prevent it from damaging.
Since our power amplifier products have a built-in protective element circuit, isolators are not required if the worst case of reflection is below the rated output power and within the VSWR < 10 range.
